Education as a key societal sector in the Philippines is significantly affected with ASEAN 2015. With its motto, “One vision, one identity, one community,” ASEAN seeks to establish a regional community this 2015 among its 10 member countries. Understandably, education lies at the core of ASEAN’s development process that contributes to the creation of a knowledge-based society, community building and enhancement of ASEAN competitiveness. Under the third pillar of ASEAN Community – more specifically ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) – member-states are expected to invest heavily on its people’s education. Given the Philippines’ membership in the ASEAN, our educational system will definitely be affected as it has far-ranging ramifications in terms of employment, jobs and leadership trainings, among others.

Almost everyone agrees that poverty is not a good thing. Almost everyone would like to end poverty. Almost everyone would benefit from ending poverty. So why don't we?

To find out, let's look at the problem through the lens of game theory. In every political cycle, our leaders face a choice: how much should they do to fight poverty, a lot or a little? If they do a lot, they'll benefit almost everyone. But if they do a little, they'll have resources left over for their other priorities.

Korean choir sings "Bayan Ko" - Pilipinas

     It's really amazing to see foreigners singing one of Philippines' patriotic songs just like the one below. Performed by a Korean choir, the "Bayan Ko" song is originally written by José Corazón de Jesús in 1929, and set to music by Constancio de Guzman. The song was written as a protest during the American occupation, now it is common in protest rallies and demonstrations. 
     Well, whatever it is, the message is powerful enough to ponder, "love of country".

     I must learn to love my country. I hope all of us.^ Thanks to somosophils for posting.

Why spend so much?

     Christmas is just days away. Let this humble representation share a simple reminder, not just for Christmas perse but throughout the year. Although simple and easy to understand, many of us have yet to internalize its essence. And sometimes putting into practice is impractical for others. Well, let us think of our future as much as we think of the present.
     The image you can see here speaks for itself. Lavish spending will further put our finances and our nation into the brink of financial downfall.
     To improve our finances and have a better life, I encourage myself^I^ and you to consider three simple steps:
1. Begin eliminating debts. Spending less than we earn frees up the money we need to make larger payments on debts. Remember that only the debtor that is responsible in paying debts, NOT friends, relatives or other people.
2. Begin to save. Build up some cash in your own savings account, this is also for emergency and retirement purposes.
3. Free yourself from stress. No debt, no stress. You are more confident to think of your future plans. Be thrifty. 

Philippines, 3rd with most wanted persons in SE Asia: Interpol

The Philippines ranked third in Southeast Asia with the most number of international wanted persons based on recent updates from the Interpol website. Interpol is the world's largest international police organization with 190 member countries as of posting time.

     Reports taken on Dec. 10, 2011 reveals that the Philippines has a total number of 28 wanted persons listed on the red alert notice of Interpol. Vietnam has the highest number of wanted persons with a total of 115, followed by Indonesia with a total of 84. Among the 11 Southeast Asian countries, Laos has zero red alert notice, while Burma and East Timor are still to become members of the said international police organization.

1,701 or 45% examinees successfully passed the Midwife Licensure Examination out of 3,756 total examinees released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on November 17, 2011.

Meanwhile, for Ifugaos, here is an update about the performance of Ifugao State University (formerly Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry). For ISCAF-Lamut Campus, a total of 46 examinees passed out of 59, a passing percentage of 77.97%. ISCAF-Potia Campus has a total of 13 out of 22 successful examinees, a passing percentage of 59.09%. ISCAF-Tinoc Campus has only one examinee but failed to pass the exam. Congratulations to all topnotchers, passers, and top performing schools! For those failed, make it better next time. Kudos!

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers (PBT) released the LET result after 39 working days given on September 25, 2011 in 18 testing centers nationwide. For the elementary level, 10, 243 successfully passed out of 45,171 examinees (22.68% passing rate). For the secondary level, 13,125 successfully passed out of 41,729 examinees (31.45% passing rate).

A brief update for Ifugao State University with old name Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry. For the elementary level, the performance of ISCAF-Lamut Campus shows a total of 77 examinees, 22 of them passed with a passing rate of 28.57% (5.89% higher compared to the national passing rate). ISCAF-Potia Campus has a total of 18 examinees, 7 passed with a passing rate of 38.89% (16.21% higher compared to the national passing rate). ISCAF-Tinoc Campus has a total of 24 examinees, 3 of them passed with a passing rate of 12.50% (although lower by 10.18% compared to the national passing rate). Unfortunately, ISCAF-Lagawe Campus has a total of 4 examinees but all of them failed.

Philippines: 2 police colonels face dismissal for P5k "kotong"

Here is another issue about police "kotong". You can just imagine they are high ranking officials yet they risked their lofty salaries and retirement benefits in exchange of P5,000 pesos. What kind of behavior these police colonels have?
Just recently, two senior police officers of the Philippine National Police are facing dismissal from the service after a plane passenger from Isabela province complained against them for alleged grave misconduct and extortion. The suspects are Senior Superintendent (Col.) Amador Hernandez and Superintendent (Lt. Col.) Eulogio Lovello Fabro. They are both assigned to the Aviation Security Group at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga.
The complainant identified as Mary Ann Delgado asked help to Isabela Vice-Governor Rodito Albano which the latter brought the issue to Hon. Jesse Robredo, secretary of DILG and chairman of NAPOLCOM.
Ms. Delgado was about to board a flight for Singapore when the incident happened.

16 PH banks in Asia's 500 list

MANILA, Philippines - Sixteen Philippine banks have made it to the list of 500 strongest banks in the region, based on a study by The Asian Banker. 

Of the 16 Philippine banks, 13 are commercial banks and three are thrift banks.

The Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) has been adjudged the strongest bank in the Philippines, and the Philippine Savings Bank (PSbank) the strongest among the three thrift banks.

Banco de Oro Unibank Inc. (BDO) has been classified as the largest Philippine bank – at 186th among the top 500 banks in the region.
