Korean choir sings "Bayan Ko" - Pilipinas

(13Dec2011 by baylander editor)
It's really amazing to see foreigners singing one of Philippines' patriotic songs just like the one below. Performed by a Korean choir, the "Bayan Ko" song is originally written by José Corazón de Jesús in 1929, and set to music by Constancio de Guzman. The song was written as a protest during the American occupation, now it is common in protest rallies and demonstrations.
Well, whatever it is, the message is powerful enough to ponder, "love of country".

I must learn to love my country. I hope all of us.^ Thanks to somosophils for posting.

Why spend so much?

(12Dec2011 by: oriental baylander)
Christmas is just days away. Let this humble representation share a simple reminder, not just for Christmas perse but throughout the year. Although simple and easy to understand, many of us have yet to internalize its essence. And sometimes putting into practice is impractical for others. Well, let us think of our future as much as we think of the present.
The image you can see here speaks for itself. Lavish spending will further put our finances and our nation into the brink of financial downfall.
To improve our finances and have a better life, I encourage myself^I^ and you to consider three simple steps:
1. Begin eliminating debts. Spending less than we earn frees up the money we need to make larger payments on debts. Remember that only the debtor that is responsible in paying debts, NOT friends, relatives or other people.
2. Begin to save. Build up some cash in your own savings account, this is also for emergency and retirement purposes.
3. Free yourself from stress. No debt, no stress. You are more confident to think of your future plans. Be thrifty.

Philippines: 2 police colonels face dismissal for P5k "kotong"

by MCP
(16Nov2011)/by: baylander
Here is another issue about police "kotong". You can just imagine they are high ranking officials yet they risked their lofty salaries and retirement benefits in exchange of P5,000 pesos. What kind of behavior these police colonels have?
Just recently, two senior police officers of the Philippine National Police are facing dismissal from the service after a plane passenger from Isabela province complained against them for alleged grave misconduct and extortion. The suspects are Senior Superintendent (Col.) Amador Hernandez and Superintendent (Lt. Col.) Eulogio Lovello Fabro. They are both assigned to the Aviation Security Group at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga.
The complainant identified as Mary Ann Delgado asked help to Isabela Vice-Governor Rodito Albano which the latter brought the issue to Hon. Jesse Robredo, secretary of DILG and chairman of NAPOLCOM.
Ms. Delgado was about to board a flight for Singapore when the incident happened.

For further details about the validity of the case, here is a portion of the article released by DILG on Nov. 16, 2011.

Four Filipino Caregivers in Japan to receive Bagong Bayani Award

(25Oct2011 by: baylander)
Recognizing our modern heroes, as defined in its purest sense, will once again emphasize the dominance of caring and sympathy in times of disaster and uncertainty. This is the world where we live nowadays, full of uncertainties. But despite the complexities, the essence of equality in a democratic perspective is proven to be the defining factor for the society to honor heroes. I am proud to have known one of the modern heroes, a fellow from Solano High School, Nueva Viscaya.

Should universities be productive?

(23Oct2011 by baylander)
I admire the person who recently wrote an article about universities, regardless of his beliefs and aspirations. Rolando V. De La Rosa's argument not to view universities mainly as a source of productivity but rather a balanced prospect for creativity is awesome. His article should stir more serious concern by all sectors on HIGHER EDUCATION and its role in the twenty first century.

A Candid Note

(22Oct2011 by: baylander )
During my beginning years, I was scramming on books  related to the field. I also searched on the Internet for useful information just to be able to catch up on details that my professors might attempt to ask. All the efforts paid when I finally made up my mind, gained my concentration and interest to pursue the course. Hence, my joys to share one abstract of what I have been through so far. Though still at the base of the ladder, I would prefer to be there anyway. It's because the ladder could not stand without its supporting base - its foundation. The truth is, I am still on the learning process. Follow the link for more about the field: http://paissues.blogspot.com/2011/10/notes-on-theory-of-organization-luther.html

H. Clinton's Remarks at U.S.-India Higher Education Summit

Remarks at U.S.-India Higher Education Summit

Remarks: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State, Georgetown University, Washington, DC
October 13, 2011

Reference: U.S. Department of State (http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2011/10/175368.htm)

Good morning. I am always happy to be here and to have a chance to be on this campus that has meant so much to my family and particularly to see the balconies filled with Hoya and to know that some of you got up quite early. (Laughter.) But I am hoping that not only are you here because of your interest in the work that is ongoing between the United States and India but because you’re also considering a career in the Foreign Service. I have to put that plug in because, as you just heard when Assistant Secretary Bob Blake was introduced, it’s a very interesting professional endeavor. And I know how wonderful it is for somebody like Assistant Secretary Blake to have spent a career forging better relations between our country and others and to come and have a chance to look up at the next generation, because after all, that is what motivates our work.
So it’s a pleasure to welcome you here. I want to think President DeGioia, as I often do, for his generosity in sharing the hospitality of this great university. I want to thank Dean Carol Lancaster for her work as well, and I’m delighted that Minister Sibal and a distinguished delegation of Indian officials is here for this event. And of course, it is always a pleasure to be anywhere with the new Indian ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Rao, we thank you for all you’ve done on behalf of your country and the relationship between us.

Dangerous Water Movement: Never Attempt to Swim Here

(04Oct2011 by: baylander)
I joined one outing along with fellows in the university sponsored by the International Affairs - Chonnam National University. Our group visited one island called Myeongryang near the metropolitan city of Gwangju, South Korea in commemoration of the Battle of Myeongryang by Japanese and Korean forces in 1957. While on the island, I went for a walk in its nearby terrains and found this rare movement of water in the island. I strongly believe that anyone who would attempt to swim in this area will surely ***. You can watch the video below (though my poor cam took it), it's really dangerous to swim here.
For those who are studying water related issues, please explain this water current. It's a seawater surrounded by islets. I'm just curious although not related to my field.
